The next Muslim Bar Association meeting is set for Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 7:30pm. (NOTE: The meeting time has been moved back by 30 minutes).
Capacity is limited - RSVP to rsvp@mbahouston.net to obtain the venue information.
The educational topic for the evening is "A Primer on Wills and Probate Law". Our speakers are Chavon Carr and Tariq Zafar, two local attorneys who are experienced in probate and estate law and in participating in wills clinics. We'll hear from them about the basic principles of forming a will and the issues that commonly come up when trying to aid pro bono clients with their estate planning.
The pro bono opportunities highlighted at this meeting will be twofold:
First, the Houston Bar Association is conducting a Will-a-thon on April 13th and May 11th. The HBA provides free wills to all Harris County low-income seniors, disabled persons, and veterans. More information is athttp://www.hba.org/ services/will-a-thon/
Second, we will setup a signup sheet to gauge interest in the Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program Saturday drop-in legal clinic (9am to 12pm) with the following dates:
April 23 - Spring Branch Family Development Center
May 7 - Bammel Church of Christ, 2700 FM 1960 West, Houston, TX, 77057

Finally, we will discuss formalizing the group's structure by asking individuals to join the leadership team to help plan and administer the organization going forward.
